What We’re About

What We’re About

Brunswick Quilters was started for the love of quilt-making and the fellowship of quilters. Our main purpose as a non-profit group is to promote and perpetuate the art of quilting. The work of the Guild is designed to benefit and educate all persons interested in preserving, continuing, and advancing this art while providing service to the community. The Guild shall encourage a high standard of design and technique in all forms of quilting. In 2012 we completed our 10th year.

We are involved in many charitable projects throughout the year.  Newborn quilts for Brunswick Novant Medical Center; walker bags for area nursing homes, rehab, and senior centers; quilts for Habitat for Humanity Homes; bed quilts for Rose House; Veteran’s lap quilts for the VA hospital in Fayetteville (which services Veterans from Brunswick County); Christmas Stockings for Brunswick Family Assistance; pillowcases for the Novant Hospital ER. Annually we have a ceremony where we present Veteran Honor quilts to Brunswick County Veterans.  Our members are generous with their time and talents.

Our regular meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 10:00 AM. We have a variety of planned workshops and activities for our members. The second Tuesday of the month is our Business Meeting. Any and all pertinent information is given to the general membership at this time. We have a Block of the Month lottery and Fat Quarter Drawing. After the business meeting, there is usually a demo or short workshop. There is Show and Tell which is always a treat and then lunch, either self-brought or some go out to continue the quilty fellowship. We are all invited to stay after lunch and work together on group or individual projects. This is a time when we can get that needed advice or help on some problem we have encountered. The talent in this group is awesome and everyone is so willing to share their talents with one another.

On the fourth Tuesday there is usually a planned program that takes up the entire meeting. But if there is no program, we gather for open sewing and fellowship. As a way to increase our skills, knowledge and inspiration, we bring in teachers periodically which generally will include a trunk show and then a member paid for class.
