Design Challenge March 27, 2007
When we arrived at our meeting this morning there were six stations set up for us. There was a piece of green fabric with colored dots on it covering the center of the table. On top of that was a name given to each of the groups. Each station was to have one person with a sewing machine, and five other people to complete the design team.
I took a seat at the table with the name Thimble on it. Before long I was joined by Bert Murray, Phyllis Bacchi, Anne Pendred and Laurie Foss. Now, I was happy to volunteer to bring my sewing machine as I am not one who can look at fabric and come up with an idea. When people tell me the fabric speaks to them, my reply is simply "so does mine, it calls me dummy!" I need step by step instructions and a good pattern. Wow, I thought, I'm lucky. I know we'll be able to come up with something with all the talent here. I breathed easier and was ready to face our challenge.
Sally soon came around with a big bag of goodies for us. There were four more pieces of different colored fabric, ribbons, buttons, fusible web and freezer paper. We had our instructions and then we were told to start. It wasn't long before our team knew just what to do. Bert and Anne were busy designing, Laurie was cutting fabric, I had my machine humming, Phyllis was making fringe. It was amazing. We worked through the morning and the room was buzzing as everyone was chatting and sewing. It was wonderful to see the display of team work and encouragement that was going on.
Finally our stomachs started growling and it was time to eat. I strolled around the room trying to get a glimpse of what the other teams were doing. Each table I went to had a spectacular top in the making and I was shooed away with friendly teasing.
After lunch we put the finishing touches on our top and eagerly waited to show off our creation. We all agreed that it was one of the best programs we had done and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I even think those quilters' who did not participate in the Design Challenge enjoyed watching us "create".
Here are the results from our Design Challenge Workshop. It was so much fun coming up with our ideas and working together to make our quilt tops. Thank you Sally!
I hope that I have not made any errors but if I have just email me and I will make the corrections. I also have saved the full sized pictures if anyone wants me to email one to them so they can print it out. Just let me know.
