Happy New Year! Can you believe 2006 is gone already? I just
don't know where the time goes. Anyway, I hope you are all looking
forward to another wonderful year at Brunswick Quilters. I know I
am.
Officers for 2007
President: Donna Lockwood
Vice President: Liz Scott
Treasurer: Nina Anderson
Secretary: Wanda Williams
Membership: Jeni Kenzel
Programs: Sally Johnson
Our first meeting of 2007 will be held on January 9th. Doors will
open at 9:30 for everyone. Remember to grab a chair to place in the
center of the room facing the stage and don't forget to sign in.
Second Hand Rose Table
You asked for it and now it's here. Something new at
Brunswick Quilters. You are encouraged to bring gently used sewing
related items in to sell during our meetings. A form will be provided at
the table to be filled out by the buyer. Brunswick Quilters will receive
15% or $15.00 whichever is less when the item is sold. No items may be
left at the Moose Hall if they are not sold. However, you can bring them
as many times as you like. Brunswick Quilters as a group will not be
responsible for any of the management of the items or sales. This is a
good way to recoup some of the money you have spent on goodies that you have
outgrown.
Brunswick Quilters Retreat 2007
We are looking for someone to Chair this committee.
Irene Chandler has stepped down as chairperson after doing a wonderful
job. Please give it some thought. The members of Brunswick Quilters
are very generous with their time and I am sure you will have no trouble at all
coming up with a committee. Any questions you have about chairing the
retreat committee can be answered by any of the officers or Irene
Chandler. I know she is willing to help the new chairperson get the
committee on its feet.
Lunch at the Moose
We will continue to have pizza for lunch at our meetings at
the Moose Hall. Virginia Loester will continue to handle that, but due to
her husband's illness there are times she cannot make the meetings. Cleo
and Eleanor will be backing her up when she cannot be there.
Meet the Quilters Day
Meet the Quilters Day is January 18th in Myrtle Beach. There will be a sign up sheet posted for those of you who have not yet signed up. We have to let Shirley know how many are attending on the 10th. Please bring your lunch. Drinks and desert will be provided. Be sure to bring something for Show and Tell. It's always a great day out and you get to meet quilters from the surrounding area.
Ann Frances will be joining us as a guest this year.
Fat Quarter Lottery
The theme for this month's lottery is Mountain Snows,
whites, blue/white or gray/white. Don't forget to bring yours.
We will continue
to have the education raffle at our business meetings.
Christmas Party
Nina Anderson has not been paid for 4 people who attended
the Christmas Party at Brunswick Plantation. As you all know, Nina's
husband was undergoing surgery and people filled in for her collecting money
and taking reservations. She is not sure who did not pay, so if you are
one of them, could you please send her a check by January 23rd. .
The Judy Lilly workshop will be on January 10th and 16th
at the Moose Hall. There are plans for
a third class. Joyce is waiting to hear
from Judy for a date. It will be
announced as soon as she gets it.
On June 18, 2007 we will have Joan Shay give a lecture and on June 19,
2007 she will teach a class on Petal Play.
Stay tuned for more news about this exciting and upcoming event.
Be sure to fill out your membership form and turn it in with your dues
to Jeni Kenzel.
Merita Schweitzer has scheduled the first Comfort Quilt day for February
27. So mark your calendars
everyone. Merita says there will be
some new and exciting things to come.
Linda Pollard and her committee will be talking about this years QIB
program. Make sure your there to get
the latest. Last year we had 36 people
participate. We’d like to see that much
participation again this year.
Picture Day been scheduled for February 13th. Be sure to bring your favorite quilt to use
as your backdrop. We would like to have
everyone’s picture in our album, so if you have not had your picture taken,
please plan to attend. Pictures will be
taken after the business meeting.
As many of you know, we have had a few mishaps with irons this past
year. The small irons that come with
metal stands are not to be used unless you have a non heat conducting stand for
them. That is wood or tile. One of the irons with the small metal rest
melted right into one of the tables at the Moose. Thankfully, no one was hurt and the damage was kept to a
minimum. Remember, safety first.
Anne Pendred has announced the categories for quilts for our show. They are as follows:
Sizes: Minis, Laps, Queens
Styles: Machine quilted self,
Machine quilted professionally, Hand quilted
Pieced, Appliqued, Wholecloth , Combination
Wearables
Others to include such things as candle mats, tote bags, wall quilts.
I think that’s it for now. I
hope that you have a good meeting on the 9th. I will not be there as my son is taking me
to Disney World. I am so excited I feel
like I am 12 again.
