First
of all, I would like to apologize for the lateness of this newsletter. As
many of you know, one of our former members was visiting me from Cary.
Well, when I took her home I wound up staying there for several days.
Those wonderful Quilt Shops were just calling my name. I got home late
Wednesday and had company for the holiday and all of a sudden this morning
I remembered I had never sent this out. I hope that everyone had a nice
Thanksgiving. I would also like to thank everyone who has emailed me
and called me with congratulations and good wishes. They are very much
appreciated. I look forward to a wonderful year.
Now
for the news.
President: Please remember Julia and Donald Walker in your
prayers as Donald is very ill.
Vice President: Mary Lou Prescot won the fat quarter
lottery. She took 20 beautiful fat quarters home.
Anne
Pendred won a craft bag. This was the lottery item this month.
Margaret
Townsend won the 50/50 which was $17.00. Congratulations to all!
Treasurer: Becky was not at the meeting this
month. Liz Scott was covering for her at the meeting. The
Treasurers Report was posted on the board at the meeting. As always, any
questions about the report should be directed to Becky Klass.
Membership: Jeni Kenzel reported that we now have 103
members and 24 new members this year. That says a lot about Brunswick
Quitlers and the friendliness of the group.
Programs: Sally Johnson was not at the meeting this
month. Sally was in Ohio due to the death of her mother-in-law. My
condolences to Sally and her family.
November
13th: Nancy Lewis was at the meeting to do a Hands on workshop on Cindy
Blackberg's stamping and hand piecing technique.
November
27th: Favor Making for Meet the Quilters Day.
December
11th: Christmas Party
December
25th: No meeting.
Education: What a great response
to the stamping class with Nancy and Laurie. Thanks to the two of them
for prepping and supplying the kits for us to learn how to do our 8 pointed
stars. Thanks to everyone who came and participated in the class. Hope
you all have your stars put together by now, and are ready to do more.
Don’t forget to order your stamp pads, ink, stamp sets and patterns directly
from Nancy. You will save postage rather than ordering them from Cindy
Blackberg. Nancy’s e mail address is nelewis@earthlink.net
There
will be a workshop on January 16h by Cathy Wiggins. If there are enough
people that sign up, we may have a second workshop on the 17th. Contact
Joyce if you wish to attend the workshop. You can check out Cathy's web
site here: http://www.cathywiggins.com and see
her work.
Meet the Quilters Day: January 15th
2008 in Myrtle Beach. New directions will be provided as some of the
street names have been changed. Joyce will get them out to us. The
theme for MTQD is "Sew Long Ago". Drinks and desserts will be provided.
If anyone wishes to help in making finger food desserts, contact Joyce.
She could use some sugar free desserts.
There
will be a favor making workshop and Pot Luck Lunch on November 27th at the
Moose. Members from Beach Quilters will be joining us. Don't forget
to bring something delicious to share.
Joyce
had a Pot Holder workshop at her home on December 19th.
Comfort Quilts: Marita
Schweitzer reported that 203 quilts were delivered to the Sheriff's Office this
year. There were 22 challenge quilts completed. She has
several quilts in various stages of completion. Marita also
said that she had received $250.00 from the Calabash Lions
Club.
Nomination and Election Committee: Anne Pendred, Susan Boyd, Jim and LaVerne Thomas announced
the officers for 2008. President: Wanda Williams, Vice
President: Irene Chandler, Secretary: Karen Harding,
Programs: Julia Larsen, Membership: Linda Swanson.
Congratulations to all! I know that we will have a great year.
Block of the Month: Lucymarie Timmermann had patterns for
the December block. I can't wait to see who wins them at the party.
They will surely make a nice holiday quilt for someone.
Christmas Party: Mary Didyoung, and her committee Cleo Lawrence and Eleanor
Hoff announced that the Christmas Party would be held on Tuesday December 11th
at the Moose Lodge. There will be a delicious luncheon served by the
Women of the Moose. The menu consists of chicken, tuna, potato and fruit
salads. There is no charge to members. A $10.00 gift exchange
is optional. If you would like to take part, just bring a
gift. Live entertainment is included in this celebration. So mark
your calendars and plan on having a wonderful time. Mary needs to know
how many people are going to attend, so you must sign up to attend. To
sign up for the Christmas Party, contact Mary Didyoung.
Every year we collect gifts for the residents of the assisted
living center in Shallotte. Bring your gifts to the Christmas Party
wrapped and note whether or not it is for a man or woman. Suggestions for
gifts: pencils, stationary, socks, toiletries (no powder), puzzle books,
etc.
Secretary:
Wanda Williams reminded everyone of the Brunswick Quilters web site www.brunswickquilters.com and reported there were a few broken links that were being
worked on. Hopefully it will be corrected soon. The CBees have been
working hard making wounded soldier quilts for Brooke Army Medical Center's
soldiers and for the Brunswick Hospital's new babies that have the need for
them. Sally Robinson has just worked her fingers to the bone. What
a woman!
Retreat: The 5th Annual Brunswick
Retreat was very successful this year. My thanks to my committee:
Donna Lockwood, Beverley Thompson, Anne Pendred, Jim and LaVerne Thomas, they
did a wonderful job. I also want to thank my husband Gary for his
wonderful cooking. No one went hungry. Everyone had a good
time. The dates have been set for next year. Mark your calendars so
you can join in on the fun. Next year the retreat will run from October
20th through October 24th.
Show and Tell: We
were treated to some wonderful quilts this month. Pictures will be posted
on the website sometime today. As I said, I am way behind on my
duties.
Quilt in the Box: From Nancy Blum,
Linda Pollard, Caroline VanSise, and Sandy Young: Because of no guild
meetings in December, and Meet the Quilters Day in January, we need to have
everyone bring back all boxes on November 27th. If you have any
boxes PLEASE bring them or find a way to get them to this meeting. Just a
suggestion: You might want to bring your block measurements, rotary
cutter, mat, and ruler to get some blocks you need cut that day.
Remember-February 19th is the day we exchange our finished blocks.
Well, that's it for this month.
It's a busy and festive time of year for all of us. Please be safe when
you are out doing your shopping and visiting with friends and family. See
you all on the 27th.
Wanda Williams
