Subject: BQ March 13th Business Meeting Notes

The Brusnwick Quilters Business Meeting was started at 10:10AM by President Donna Lockwood.  Donna stated that there have been requests by members to possibly find a smoke free facility for our meetings.  Donna asked for a show of hands to determine whether or not we should pursue a search for a smoke free facility to hold our meetings.  The majority raided their hands not to move our meeting place from the Moose.  So the Moose will remain our home.

The new policy for the Second Hand Rose table was discussed.  There is no longer a 15% fee to Brusnwick Quilters if you sell something using the SHR table.  If you would like to make a donation out of your sale that is up to you.

Membership

Jeni Kenzel introduced new member Julia Hinnant today.  Welcome back Julia.  We also had a visitor Mary Danials who just might be joining us too.

Treasurer

Nina Anderson posted the treasurer's report at the meeting.  Anyone having questions about the report can contact Nina.

Education

Joyce DeLucia announced that the Judy Lilly class has been rescheduled for April 17 at 9AM at the Moose.  There are openings so anyone who would like to attend contact Joyce.

Joan Shay will be here on June 18th to give a lecture and her class on Petal Play will be on June 19th.  Sign up's began to day for the class.  Fee is $25.00 for members, $30.00 for non-members.  Contact Joyce DeLucia if you would like to attend.

Programs

Sally Johnson gave a demonstration on a variation of a pinwheel block.  When you are done, you wind up with a 3D block which is just too cute for a child's quilt.  I can't wait to make a quilt using this technique.  Thanks Sally!

Sally has announced that the Program for Tuesday March 27th is "Design Challenge".  There will be six teams of people.  One person from each team will bring a sewing machine, cutting mat, and rotary cutter.  These people already know who they are.  All other materials will be supplies by Sally.  You won't want to miss this activity.  It promises to get your creative juices flowing and your team work skills sharpened.  So, save the date and join in the fun.

Secretary

Ok, my email program won't let me change the font color anymore.  So, it's back to plain black.  Boring!  Oh where was I?  Oh yeah,  I had nothing to report as far as being secretary today.  Only that Liz Scott is having surgery at New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington and I will be sending her a card from the group.  Lets keep Liz in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy and uneventful recovery.

Retreat

The Annual Brunswick Quilters Retreat will be October 15-18th at the Baptist Assembly Facility on Caswell Beach.  After I get my info together I will let you know how much money for your deposit is due on June 12th and when the balance is due.  Any questions or comments can be directed to me.

Quilt Show

There will be a meeting of the Quilt Show Committee on March 27th after the regular program at the Moose.

Anne Pendred announced that things are moving along nicely for the show.  Megan Carmichael has volunteered her husband and son and their  trucks to pick up the frames from Wilmington and to deliver them to the Armory.  Posters  17x11 will be ready from the printer on Friday so anyone needing one to display let Anne know.  Nancy Jo Marsden has a sign up sheet for people to work the Boutique and also for those who are selling goods during the show.

We will be selling raffle tickets at the Southport Craft Festival at Franklin Square in Southport on April 6th and 7th.  We need volunteers to mand the table.  Contact Anne Pendred  if you are able to help out.  This is a great opportunity to make money with our quilt so volunteer an hour or two.  I'll be there.  :)  What more could you ask for?

Anne also announced that last month she took our raffle quilt to the Quilters By the Sea Guild meeting and sold $105.00 worth of tickets.  If anyone would like to take the quilt to a meeting to sell tickets, contact Marjorie Eisenman to schedule time with the quilt.

There was a sign up sheet for those members who are planning to put a quilt in the show.  Let Anne know if you plan to enter a quilt or two or three... If you wish to enter a king sized quilt, let Anne know so she can make sure there is enough room to accommodate it.

Raffle Tickets

Margo Woolard announced that we have sold $1500.00 in tickets so far.  Lets keep up the good work.  And don't forget that all members of Brunswick Quilters are asked to sell $20.00 worth of tickets.  Be sure to turn the money and the unsold tickets in to Margo or Jeni.  If you need more tickets contact Margo or Jeni.

Comfort Quilts

Look what just happened, the color is back!  Marita Schweitzer announced that she delivered 76 comfort quilts to the Sheriff’s Office.  She spoke with several of the officers and they were just thrilled with the quilts.  They especially liked the children’s prints.  Next Comfort Quilt Workshop is April 24th.

2007 Quilt In The Box

Linda Pollard and her committee did a wonderful job organizing everything for the 2007 QIB project.  Rules were reviewed and boxes were exchanged today.  Now I just need to decide what block I'm going to make...:)

Block of the Month

Lucy Marie Timmerman introduced the new block.  It's an appliquéd bunny on a pretty spring floral print.  I can't wait to make this one.  The winners of the Batik Star blocks were Carol Begley and Susan Boyd.  They each got 9 blocks.  Congratulations girls!

Trips

Linda Swanson announced that the trip to Not Sew Many Common Threads and Sewing in the Carolina's is set for Thursday March 15th.  She is looking forward to the fellowship and shopping with everyone.   Those leaving from Shallotte plan on meeting at 9AM and those leaving from the Calabash/Little River area plan on leaving about 15 minutes later.  Not Sew Many Common Threads is offering a 20% discount on everything except sewing machines.  They are a Husqvarna dealer and Sewing in the Carolina's is offering a 30% discount on notions.  Lunch is planned for the Atlanta Bread Company.

Libray News

Julia Larsen announced today that we have received a large donation of books from Jean Marshall.    She has also gotten a stamp made so that she can mark our books to denote ownership.

Fat Quarter Drawing

18 fat quarters were won by Eleanor Hoff.  Congratulations Eleanor.

Education Lottery

Patchwork purse donated by Sue Hite was won by Anne Pendred.  Congratulations Anne.

Fifty-Fifty

$22.50 was won by Jeanne Marshall.  Congratulations Jean.  Now you can spend some money on the trip!  :)

Show and Tell

We were treated to some beautiful quilts today.  Too numerous to mention here.  I am in awe every time I see the talent that we have in our wonderful group.

That brings us to the end my dear friends.  It was a good meeting with a lot of sharing and fellowship.  See you all next time.  Until then, be safe, be happy and quilt to your hearts content.
