Subject: BQ Business Meeting Notes

The Brunswick Quilters Business Meeting was held on August 14th, 2007 at the Moose Lodge in Shallotte.

President  Donna Lockwood introduced the Nominating Committee, Anne Pendred and Susan Boyd,  for the 2008 officers.  Nominations will be announced at the September 11th Business Meeting.  Elections will be held at the October 9th Business Meeting.  Anyone interested in running for an office contact either Anne Pendred at Apendred@AOL.com  910-575-6677 or

Susan Boyd at watergarscb@mindspring.com  910-755-6984.  Remember this is your organization so take the leap and run for an office this year.  Lets see how we can make Brunswick Quilters even better than it is.

Remember!!!!!!There will be NO meeting on September 25th.

A vote was taken to see if there was interest in keeping the 50/50 and Lottery item at our meetings.  The majority of those present indicated that they wanted to continue with these two activities.

Vice President  Liz was not at the meeting.

Membership  Jeni Kenzel was not present, but Lucymarie Timmerman was covering for her.  We now have 100 members.  That is a credit to our great organization.  New members have reported that they have been made to feel welcome and have enjoyed the friendly atmosphere.

Quilt Show  Anne Pendred reported that the approximate profit from the Quilt Show is 3282.00.  There are still monies coming in from items left over from the Market Place and bills coming in to replace the frames that were borrowed for our quilt show signs.  Over all Anne said the show was a success with 347 paid attendees.  However, Anne said she was very disappointed in the support from Brunswick quilters as far as the number of people who put a quilt in the show.  So, who's going to be our next quilt show chairperson?  We've done it once so the second time will be easier.  Contact Donna Lockwood at dlockwood@atmc.net

910-842-8474 if you are interested in being our second quilt show chair.

Education  Joyce DeLucia was not at the meeting, but Susan Boyd said that the Linda Potter Lecture "Needle Magic" will be on Wednesday September 26th at 10AM at the Moose Lodge.  This is open to all members of Brunswick Quitlers.  If you would like to bring a non-member guest with you, the cost is $5.00.   So mark your calendars and come see Linda.  The Linda Potter class will be held on Thursday September 27th at 9AM at the Moose Lodge.  There are currently 3 openings left.  The cost is $25.00 for members and $35.00 for non-members.  Don't forget to bring your Linda Potter books with you so Linda can sign them.

Meet the Quilters Day  Jean Marshall reported that the theme for MTQD is "Sew Long Ago".  We will be making favors for the MTQD on Tuesday November 27th.  So mark your calendars!  Members of Beach Quilters will be joining us to make the favors.  Joyce has sent out a mailing requesting volunteers to help with the day.  Be sure to contact Joyce DeLucia at

Jdelucia@atmc.net    910-842-6942 if you would like to volunteer.

Trips  Linda Swanson has arranged another trip for us.  On Tuesday, September 18 Brunswick Quilters will travel to

Florence, SC to visit Sew Unique--a shop that carries quilting supplies and fabrics, smocking materials, and handmade gift items.  They have a nice collection of batiks and 50's reproductions arranged by color.  Lunch will be at the Cafe Florentine which offers nice salads and sandwiches at lunch.  Then it's on to Hobby Lobby--a Michael's type store.  This would be a good place to stock up on supplies for the Embellishment class that will be held the next week.  We will meet at 8:30AM  in Lowe's Home Improvement Parking Lot in Shallotte.  Please give $8.00 to your driver.  If you would like to sign up contact Linda

Swanson at 910-846-3523 or latswanson@atmc.net .  Thanks Linda, sounds like a great trip.  Mark your calendars and get your friends together and lets have a good time in Florence.

Programs  Sally Johnson was not at the meeting, but Donna reported that on August 28th the program will be "Lunch Leftovers".  Members are to bring a UFO that they have no idea how to finish as well as a pad and pencil.  Each member will present their UFO and the audience will offer constructive suggestions.  We will be having a Pot Luck Salad Luncheon as well.  Elaine West, Cleo Lawrence and Eleanor Hoff have volunteered to set up the luncheon.  Any kind of salad is welcome and bring enough to share.  Bring your own drink.  Utensils and paper plates will be provided.

Comfort Quilts  Marita Schwietzer and Julia Larsen spoke about the Comfort Quilt challenge.  For those of you who don't know about the challenge you can read about it here on our web site.  The material for the challenge is available at each of our meetings in the back of the room.  Or, you can contact Marita at mar3ala@atmc.net  910-287-6964.  The tops are due on or before October 9th.  They will be used on the next CC Workshop on October 23rd.  They had several tops that have already been turned in.  I will put pictures of them on the site shortly.

Block of the Month  Lucymarie Timmermann introduced the September block.  This is the beginning of a series.  After the meeting was over, Lucymarie demonstrated how to put the blocks together.  Thanks Lucymarie.  These look like they are going to be fun to make.  If you haven't gotten your BOM yet, you won't want to miss this one.  Give Lucymarie a call at wltim@2khiway.net   910-579-0138 and pick on up on August 28th.

Secretary   Wanda Williams reported that she has gotten good feed back from our web site.  www.brunswickquilters.com  I also received a couple of questions about links.  So I thought I would share the info with all of you.  Again, if anyone has any questions or is having difficulty using their computer, I would be very happy to give you a hand.

What are links?  Links are the blue colored (usually blue) words that are usually underlined on web pages or in email.  If you click on these links it will take you to a site on the www.  In my emails to you I have several links which will allow you to contact people without going into your email client.  Take my email address for instance, cowabash@atmc.net   see how it is blue and underlined?  If you click on it it will pull up a new empty email for you already addressed to me.  All you need to do is add your message.  When you visit our web site, all of the words in blue are links.  If you click on them they will take you to different pages.

BQ 5th Annual Retreat  October 15th through 18th.  The theme this year is Octoberfest.  The balance of the money is due by August 28th for the retreat.  Judy Lily will be teaching a class "Portrait of a Poppy".  There was a sample at the meeting.  She will provide a kit for $22.00 which does not include the pattern or the thread or embellishments you wish to add.  The pattern is $8.00 payable to Judy at the retreat.  Please let me know by the 28th if you are taking the class and want a kit.  We are asking for the kits to be paid for in advance.  You can send me a check for your kit at:  Wanda Williams, 13 Cowtrain Road, Supply, NC 28462.

All in all it was a great meeting.  Can't wait to see you all on the 28th.  As always, anyone with concerns, comments, complaints or suggestions be sure to either put them in the suggestion box, or contact anyone on the Steering Committee.  We can't hear your voice if you don't speak up.

Until next time...Keep on piecing!
