BQ Business Meeting   10-14-08

 

 

 

President Wanda Williams opened the meeting with a hardy welcome back to LaVerne Thomas.  Wanda was using the new sound system—the old one died.  She asked us to keep Cindy Long in our prayers.  Members added that Lois Snavely and Mary Lou Smith were not well and to include them.  Wanda apologized for being unable to attend Schoolhouse days and thanked Nina Clark for doing a great job.  She reported that 24 would be attending the retreat.  She asked members how they enjoyed the Bonnie Hunter show, class and lecture.  All agreed that it was very good.  She explained that, due to a change in banking laws, the guild needed a tax ID number and that that required that Bylaws be written The board will make a few changes and copies will be handed out to members at the November to be reviewed.  She hopes that questions or suggestions will occur as the members have a chance to read these.

 

Julia Larsen started her report with a choice joke this month..  The report will be posted in back.

 

Linda Swanson announced that three new members were with us today.  As the information is available it will be forwarded to members to add to their lists.

 

Cleo Lawrence spoke for the nominating committee. Needed are an assistant for Joyce DeLucia and a secretary.  All other officers will continue for next year.  A new member , Char Lane, graciously volunteered to help Joyce and Nina Clark stepped in with alacrity to be the new secretary.  Thanks to all. 

Donna Lockwood made the suggestion that there might be a couple members-at-large on the board that might fill in for board members who could not be present at meetings.  She reported that the Christmas luncheon would be held December 9th at Winding River.  There will be some cost for members, but the club will be defraying some of the cost.  There will be more info later when costs are firmed up.

 

Nina Clark reported that she felt that Schoolhouse days had gone well and that we all, hopefully, learned something and had fun.

 

After the business meeting on November 11, LucyMarie Timmerman will instruct those who have been doing Blocks of the Month at home how to assemble a quilt top.  She had a lovely prototype with her to show all.  So those who have them should bring Machines and Blocks.

 

Eleanor Hoff, Comfort Quilt chairman, reported that she had delivered comfort quilts to the new sheriff, where they were well received and she was told that they could certainly use all we could offer.

 

Ruth Wilding is making quilts for Chemo units and asked that if any members had extra pink fabric she is in need of a variety of pinks in 2 inch strips for the 8 to 9 inch squares   Karen will send an email to members not in attendance conveying this request.  Jim Thomas reported that the Paducah show is on hold at this time. 

 

Sally Robinson won the 50/50 drawing.

Susan Boyd won the special drawing.

Margie Eisenman won the fat quarters.

 

Julia Larsen, Sally Robinson, Louisa Jordan, Linda Pollard, Bert Murray, Shirley Zimmerman, LucyMarie Timmerman, Char Lane, and Jean Marshall shared some of their lovely work with us during Show and Tell.  After requests from members, Lucy Marie agreed to teach us how to make a lovely bag and Shirley agreed to give us instructions in creating a three-dimensional poinsettia wall hanging.

 

The meeting was adjourned. Cleo Lawrence instructed us in making a reversible table runner.
